Walmart Pizza Supplier Sued for Wage Theft and Retaliation

Sunday, April 28th, 2013

On April 29, 2013, workers filed a lawsuit charging Great Kitchens and temporary agency Staffing Network with wage theft, illegal retaliation against workers who speak up and multiple violations of Illinois labor laws.

Great Kitchens supplies Walmart, Sam’s Club and other retailers with pizzas under brand names including Walmart’s own Marketside.

“We have been robbed of pay we earned and we can’t live like this anymore” said Jose Miguel Rojos, an eight year employee at Great Kitchens.

Workers will present Walmart with a copy of the lawsuit on Monday April 29, 2013 11am at Walmart Express Store 500 W. Monroe in Chicago.

Walmart has been under intense scrutiny around abuses of workers in their supply chain. Great Kitchens is yet another example of Walmart’s faulty labor monitoring system that has failed to prevent recent deaths from fires and building collapse in Bangladesh, failed to stop forced labor in the seafood processing industry in Louisiana and did nothing to fix unsafe and illegal conditions inside Walmart warehouses in Illinois and California.
